Week Seventeen of Project Happy
This week’s Project Happy is all about music.
I love music.
It’s always been a big part of my life.
I grew up taking music lessons. First, I learned how to play the accordion. The accordion is a traditional instrument in our family. My grandpa played it as well as my dad. Then, I moved over to the organ. I had always wished though that I could learn to the play the piano. Maybe someday.
My parents always had shared their love of music with us as well. They owned many records (yes, records), 8 tracks, cassette tapes, and then CDs. My parents threw parties frequently, especially during curling season. Music travelled up our narrow stair way up to our bedrooms and kept us awake at all hours of the night. I didn’t mind. I always enjoyed what they were playing.
And because of them, I was the only kid in Grade 3 who knew who Meatloaf was.
Their great taste in music was passed along to my brother and I. I enjoy a variety of types of music ranging from pop to rock to alternative to country. I also enjoy classical music but rarely listen to it. I should really start.
I also was a participant in my school choirs in elementary and high school. I loved to sing. I still do. I can always be heard singing along to any song on the radio or TV. I just wish I had a great voice.
Lately, I have been taking my iPod to listen to music when I go for my much anticipated walks. Due to budget restrictions, I cannot afford to buy many songs/CDs. So, my iPod music is getting a wee bit outdated.
But when a great song comes on during my walk sometimes I feel like breaking out into dance right then and there on the street. If I did, I bet I would have the neighbours talking.
For the last little while I’ve been itching to go out dancing. But sadly, I would feel quite old going out to our local bar at the age of 31. All of the “kids” in there are just so… well… young. The last time I went I swore some were barely legal.
I am glad that my boys also love music. Of course, they have their mama’s great taste and have awesome dance moves too.
Below are a few songs I wanted to share with you that get me pumped during my walk.
Confession: I do not watch music videos anymore so I apologize if there is any questionable content in any of these videos.
And I may have broke out into dance during while playing these in my dining room.
