Twelve Years Ago You Passed Away
It was 12 years ago today that we watched you as your took your last breath.
Dad whispered something in your ear and you slipped away.
We will never forget that day.
I will never forget that day.
You had a tough life.
It was more than you could bear and that is why you turned to alcohol to soothe your pain.
You apologized to me a few days before you passed away.
I didn’t know how to respond.
I never knew a sober mom.
But I hope you know that you are forgiven.
I wish you were still here with us but I know you are no longer suffering.
I hope you have found peace and are happy in Heaven with your father, who you missed so much.
This song was playing in the car as we left the hospital that early morning 12 years ago.
We listened to the lyrics and thought it was perfect timing for it to be playing.
So, we had it played at your funeral.
Along with the song you said you had always said you wanted to be played when you passed away.

There is so much more I want to say.
But you probably already know what I would like to as I like to believe you are watching over us.
I hope we have done you proud all of these years.
We think of you and miss you each and every day.
Love you Mom!
