Do The Unexpected
Sometimes you just have to do the unexpected.
Leave your fears behind and do something you have never done before.
This is what I did back in early July.
Years ago I would have been too scared to even think about going for a ride in a helicopter.
But this year is all about doing the unexpected.
I had heard that a local business was going to be offering helicopter rides during our community’s annual summer festival. The fee per person was not expensive at all and half of the proceeds were being donated back to the festival. This would be a great cause to support.
I did not want to go alone (although I would have if no one wanted to come with me). I wanted to share this experience with my family. Big Boy was the only one in our family who had not been in an airplane. So, I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to see what it was like to be up in the air.
We went to the launch site and signed up for our ride. We had to wait about an hour or so for our turn.
When the time came to load up the helicopter there were no nerves.
This was surprising to me as I suffer from anxiety.
I was nothing but excited and so was my oldest son.
We got all buckled in and were ready for take off. I smiled at Big Boy and he smiled back.
Then, we started leaving the field.
If you have never been in a helicopter, you are missing out. You don’t even feel like you are flying. Someone equated it to being in an elevator. There was no turbulence. Just a smooth ride.
It was so neat being able to see our home town from the air. From way up above we got to see our local mine, many houses and stores in the community, and a few recognizable tourist attractions (i.e. smoke stack, golf course, museum site, etc.).
What an awesome experience.
Definitely not one I will soon forget.
