Making Health A Priority With Shakeology

Ever since I was a little girl I have struggled with my weight.

It seems as though I have tried everything to try to lose weight and keep it off.

At some points I even become obsessed about my weight. I got to a point where I would weigh myself everyday.

Over the years I did manage to get my weight down to a point that I figure is where my body should be. It always seemed to be the weight that my body constantly returned to.

Currently, I am ten pounds above my usual weight. I know. It doesn’t seem like a lot but on my small frame it is (I’m only 5’3″ tall). My clothes do not fit as they should. And my self-confidence is at an all-time low.

To help get me on a path to better health I decided to try something new – Shakeology. Shakeology is a meal replacement shake jammed packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, proteins, and much more.

Shakeology Greenberry Vanilla Chocolate

According to the website Shakeology can help:

  • build and repair muscles
  • promote ideal blood sugar levels
  • fight cravings and feel full longer
  • promote a strong immune system
  • protect the body from stress
  • support brain function
  • aid in digestion

So, I figured why not give it a try? I am not typically one to drink my calories but I figured giving up one meal a day in exchange for a healthy shake should not be too difficult.

My coach provided me with three different flavours of the shake to try – Vanilla, Greenberry, and Chocolate.

Along with drinking my daily shake I hope to make a few other changes in the coming weeks.

This week I will focus on a few small goals:

  • start to wear my pedometer and aim to get more steps in than I did the day before
  • drink at least 6 glasses of water a day
  • go to bed at a decent time

I will report back to you in a week and let you know how my challenge is going.

A week later…

This first week went by really quickly. It may not have been the most successful but I made it through.

I was really excited to try Shakeology on day one. I went all in – head first.

For my first shake I tried a packet of Vanilla Shakeology. I mixed it with yogurt, frozen fruit, hemp hearts, milk and a bit of water. (My coach provided me with a link to a ton of recipes to experiment with.)

To be honest I did not like the taste of Vanilla Shakeology at all. I could really taste the powder and it was off putting. I thought adding the fruit and yogurt would help improve the taste (as I have used powdered shakes before) but it didn’t seem to make a difference. I was really apprehensive try another shake.

My coach said to try taking half a packet of the shake and see if that would help. And it did. I switched up the flavour of the Shakeology I was using as well. I made my second shake with Greenberry Shakeology and I enjoyed it much better. Since I am such a chocolate lover I thought that I would love Chocolate Shakeology but it was almost too sweet for me. But I did like it better than the vanilla flavour. I also modified what I put into the rest of my shakes. I decided not to continue using the hemp hearts and used half the amount of frozen fruit and milk than I did in my first shake.

After only a week of using Shakeology I cannot say definitively that anything has really changed. I checked my weight in the middle of the week and I was down almost one pound. This morning I checked again and I am actually up one pound from my original start weight on day one. This could be due to a whole host of things. This weekend was tough for me because we were celebrating the husband’s birthday and we ate out twice. Since I have a hard time eating out in restaurants I did not eat my meal last night until 8:30-9:00 pm when we returned home. Plus, my sleep was not the greatest for the last few nights.

Wearing my pedometer was a real eye opener. I realized that I really do need to move a lot more than I have been.

My energy levels are not any different either. Maybe things will improve in the next week.

In the next week I plan to:

  • take a walk for 30-60 minutes at least four days this week
  • modify my eating habits
  • try again to go to bed earlier
  • and drink more water

Wish me luck.

Good luck! I need to drink more water. I find shakes and smoothies help. I often skipped breakfast

I used to skip breakfast when I was a kid but now I just can’t. It’s something I look forward to every morning. Lunch time I dread. LOL! Getting water in is tough if you don’t enjoy how plain it is. Thankfully, it is all I really drink (I can’t have pop, not a big tea drinker and can’t stomach coffee. LOL).

Good for you girl! I need to eat better. I’ve been working out 3x a week for two months now, but my eating is AWFUL!! Do you know if they are Gluten free??

Watching what I eat is a struggle too. I’ve counted points on Weight Watchers but felt too restricted. Tracked calories on MyFitnessPal but always go over my limit. And snacking at night is my big downfall! I will check with my coach regarding the shakes being gluten free. I don’t think they are but I will let you know.

Getting enough sleep is so important – when you are tired it is almost impossible to get motivated to exercise.

I really need to work on my sleep habits. And you are very right, it is hard to motivate yourself to do anything when you are tired. I just really enjoy my quiet time at night. LOL!

ugh the weight struggle is so hard! I try really hard not to think about the numbers but it is so hard. Right now I am pregnant so I have to watch and it is sooo hard but necessary. I think I may have to try these after baby arrives!

I have tried to not think about the number on the scale and not let it define me. It is so difficult! Thank you for stopping by!

Great, honest review. I really appreciate that you said you had trouble with the flavour at first. So many of them can be offputting. Great that you were able to find a balance. Looks like a great product.

I am still having a wee bit of trouble with the flavours/textures. Not sure what I am going to do. I really wanted to be honest in my review. I wish I liked the product as much as other people seem to.

Oh gosh I hear ya. I too am small (5’4) and about 10 lbs over my normal weight. I had to quite dancing earlier this year and have been horribly inactive since, and feeling awful! I need to take some inspiration from ya

That is too bad you had to quit dancing. It is not fun when you cannot do something you love to do! I wrote about my second week of using Shakeology and the post is live now. Maybe we can motivate each other to get a little more active in the coming weeks! I need to lose this extra weight as summer is quickly creeping up on us!
