Kids Connect with the VTech InnoTab Max

VTech InnoTab Max

I knew that the VTech InnoTab Max tablet was going to be a great device but I did not realize how great until I got it into my kid’s hands.

When I showed Little Man his new toy he was super excited. H was so pumped that he practically grabbed it from my hands the minute it was finished charging.

Although, before getting into the device and exploring all the fun to be had, I had to register the device first. It was super simple and only took a few minutes. I registered the InnoTab Max using my personal email address so that I could receive updates and messages about how my son was using the device.

I was given the opportunity to create a passcode (for parental controls) so that my kids do not get into areas of the tablet I do not want them having access to. As a parent I know I feel more secure when I can control various functions of a device, such as a tablet. Especially when you have someone so young connected to the Internet. Thank goodness for parental controls. In this handy part of the tablet you can control the amount of time your child spends on the device, view the progress log, lock various content on the tablet and specify what websites they can visit in the web browser.

I also created an account for the Learning Lodge where you can download a multitude of games, apps, videos, music, ebooks and more! While setting this account up we learned that we were allowed to download two apps for free to get us started. You can also buy cartridge games and use those with the InnoTab Max.

Little Man has been having a great time using his VTech InnoTab Max. Even though we do not have a lot of apps installed yet he has been using many of the main applications that come with the device. One such app is the clock and stopwatch. He uses the stopwatch to see how long it takes him to run from one end of the house to the other. He loves it when he beats his previous time.

He has also been exploring the camera and video functions. He has taken a few cute pictures using the 180° rotating camera. Little Man has unleashed his creative side using the Art Studio and he has practiced his typing skills in the Notepad.

(I apologize for the weird little critter on the photos but it is hiding my son’s identity.)

I asked Little Man what his favourite thing about the InnoTab Max is and he said the calendar. He has planned out the next few months with different activities he enjoys (or hopes to enjoy). Camping in January? I am not sure if we can accomplish that here in Northern Manitoba! It gets down to -50° below in January and February. I am used to the cold but not that used to it to go camping in the winter time!

Another neat feature with the VTech InnoTab Max is that you can create a VTech Kid Connect ID for your child. This ID is unique to each individual. Parents can download the VTech Kid Connect app on their smartphones or tablets and can send messages to their child while they are using their InnoTab Max using their unique Kid Connect ID. The messages can be text or voice based. Stickers, photos and drawings can also be sent. To learn more about Kid Connect visit the VTech Kid Connect page. If your child knows a friend who also has an InnoTab Max, they can begin exchanging messages back and forth as well. (However, I am not sure if I am ready for my five-year old to be texting just yet.)

We have been experiencing a few issues with our tablet. It seems as though it takes the tablet a while to respond when we press certain buttons (such as the power and volume keys). The stylus also broke in half when I was taking it out of the packaging. So, we have had to use our fingers to navigate the tablet which isn’t always easy. Other than those few hiccups, using the InnoTab Max has been a breeze!

A bonus to having this tablet is the included AC adapter. We have owned other learning type games/tablets but most often they ran off of battery power. The first day our oldest used his learning game he went through six AA batteries in no time flat. We later found out that we could purchase a rechargeable battery for that particular device. This definitely helped save on additional costs. So, I was so glad to see that an AC adapter came with the InnoTab Max so that we would not have to worry about spending a ton of money on batteries.

I love that the tablet has a durable cover to protect the screen while the InnoTab Max is not in use. You can also easily remove the cover if your child no longer wishes to have it. For simple portability, there is a built-in handle that your child can use to carry the tablet around safely.
